On July 8-9, 2024, Mr. Khabibullaev Bakhitjan, Director of the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Basin, Uzbekistan, visited our graduate school. Dr. Naoko Matsuo and Prof. Kristina Toderich are collaborating with this Center under the JST/JICA SATREPS program on the development of bioremediation and biosaline agriculture using halophytes and non-conventional crops in the Aral Sea region, where available water is extremely limited and much salt is accumulated in the soil.
On July 9, Mr. Bakhitjan visited the Farm Station of the Kii-Kuroshio Bio-regional Field Science Center, where Prof. Kiyoshi Nagasuga introduced the farm's research activities and we discussed on the problems and new research issues of agriculture in dry salt-affected areas in the Aral Sea region.
